Amla ( Phyllanthes emblica)

Another alt text

According to Indian mythology, the Amla tree emerged from a drop of nectar or amrit. Its fruits are loaded with Vitamin C and used extensively as a home remedy and in Ayurveda. But the mighty reputation of these fruits overshadows the other interesting features of this tree. What one might assume to be a feather-like leaf is actually a twig, bearing several tiny leaves. On the naked base, grow minute greenish white, male and female flowers. An easy way to identify this tree is by its flaky, ashy bark on a smooth creamy trunk.
